NATURAL OILS FOR ‘troubled skin’
One of the most common questions that appears in my inbox is “what oils should I be using for my skin condition?”. Skin conditions are often the ‘body’s cry for help’. The skin plays a super important role in your life; it protects (from variations in temperature, micro-organisms, radiation, chemicals and more), regulates our body’s temperature, excretes toxic substances, acts as a reservoir for the synthesis of Vitamin D and finally allows you to feel (touch). Although, it is a very powerful and sophisticated organ, sometimes it cannot cope with all the influences from either the inside or the outside and manifests its issues in one or more of such things as eczema, rough/dry skin, psoriasis, acne, discolouring, warts etc.
Although, there are many causes of skin conditions (nutritional deficiencies, stress, gene variation, immune system dysfunction, bacteria, hormonal imbalance, chronic health condition or allergies) there are even more natural remedies that you can do to help your skin to deal with them. Some of the most common are: a proper skin routine, healthy diet, natural treatments, exercise and more. Whilst all of these will be essential to healthy skin, many people are still unaware of how beneficial it is to use natural skin care. In this regard, I will focus on natural oils and especially – carrier oils.
Carrier oils provide some amazing benefits for your skin – especially when a synergy is formed between the carrier oils and essential oils. When blended correctly the results can be spectacular. They can soften wrinkles, stimulate new cell growth, maintain hormonal balance, accelerate healing process, improve collagen production, tighten skin and bring suppleness and radiance to your skin which gives the effect of more youthful and healthy skin.
Not only do Carrier Oils contain components such as fat-soluble vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, but their other major benefit is that they are the binding agents that literally transport their own nutrients and nutrients from essential oils or other active ingredients to the various layers of the skin. It is this combination of nutrients & minerals that is the reason that these oils have such healing properties and thus improve the look and feel of skin and hair. However, the choice of a Carrier Oil is dependent on the underlying problem as each carrier oil has distinctive qualities which have a variety of applications.
I’ve attached a list of common oils and their benefits for your skin.
Having had eczema sufferers previously in my family, I know it is not easy to watch one of your loved ones waking up several times at night and scratching the skin until it bleeds. But, before you apply any of the typical ointments which are likely containing things such as; corticosteroids, carcinogenic and/or synthetic ingredients, hormone disrupters or other substances (that have severe long-term side effects), it is very likely that you would be best served to try to help your skin naturally through the application of natural skincare that contain the correct essential & carrier oils.
